Get to know Richard Daley, NSW & ACT Senior Property Underwriter:
1. Where did you work before this position?
I was a Team Manager in the CGU NSW SME team: never a dull moment.
2. What is something you find challenging about your role?
With the climate changing it is getting harder to assess and underwrite the natural perils exposures.
3. What do you see as the biggest influences in the Property market at present?
Climate change is increasing the frequency and scale of natural peril losses. Other influences are the rising claims costs resulting from supply chain issues, skilled labour shortages, and inflationary pressures.
4. In general, what types of Property opportunities are seeing and writing the most?
Commercial Property Owners particularly shopping centres, 4-5 star hotels, aged care facilities, engineering companies, warehousing, and distribution risks but note we have a broad appetite so please give us a call to discuss.
5. From your perspective, what would you say are CGU’s strengths in Property?
Our key strength is having an experienced national team of property underwriters offering a local presence, service, and knowledge to work with you and your client to find the right property solution. We also have the benefit of a specialised and experienced claims management team with a proven track record of managing complex property losses. Our risk engineers (IAG Risk Partners) are there to support the client by providing a range of risk management services to better protect their assets.
6. What is one piece of advice you can give brokers when presenting their Property opportunities to underwriters?
Gathering the COPE and claims information is essential but it also important to be able to demonstrate that the client has good risk management and housekeeping practices in place. Please give us a call and tell us the story of the client and how they go about
