Get to know Dustin Bartley, Executive Manager, Workers Compensation

Tell us about yourself and your role

I am an Occupational Therapy, Personal Injury and MBA graduate with over 20 years of industry experience. I have chased opportunities to learn, get out of my comfort zone, and drive transformation change through multiple Executive roles across Workers Compensation, Compulsory Third Party (CTP), and Intermediated General Insurance. I started my role as Executive Manager, Workers Compensation in April ’22 with an aspiration to become the insurer of choice, providing trusted experts and easy interactions that create sustainable value for all. I am privileged to lead CGU’s end-to-end workers compensation business and be surrounded by trusted experts. Together, we distribute workers compensation insurance to >26,000 policyholders and generate approximately $500m GWP.

Tell us about yourself and your role

For over 20 years I have enjoyed a successful career in the Underwritten Workers Compensation business, including four years as the WA State Manager and seven years in National Key Accounts . I bring a deep understanding of distribution and claims functions, a well-established industry reputation and network, and a proven ability to attract and retain long standing partnerships that create value for all.

As the Manager, Business Development, I lead the design and implementation of our sales, service, and retention strategy to optimise our reputation, growth, and returns.

Get to know Michael Rathjen, Manager, National Underwriting, Workers Compensation

Tell us about yourself and your role

I have been in the Workers Compensation Industry for over 25 Years, having previously worked in CGU’s National Account team servicing our brokers across underwritten and fee business nationally. 

In my role as National Underwriting Manager, I lead our underwriting function across the ACT, NT, TAS & WA and have staff based around the country. Together, we provide the market with trusted experts that assess and underwrite risk to create sustainable value for all.

Tell us about yourself and your role

I’m an Exercise Physiologist by background and have worked within the Workers Compensation industry for almost 12 years. My role is CGU’s Workers Compensation National Claims Manager - I am the direct Manager for all of the claims teams in our Workers Compensation product across TAS, ACT, NT, and WA. My team comprises of industry professionals across both technical and injury management fields. We drive claims outcomes for our customers through the implementation of CGU Workers Compensation claims initiatives that drive real, sustainable benefits across the claims program at an individual claim and policy level. 

Get to know Maria Palumbo, Manager, Delivery and Performance, Workers Compensation

Tell us about yourself and your role

I have over 20 years of experience within the general insurance and Workers Compensation industry. I started my career in the CGU Home Insurance Team, gaining an established understanding of policy interpretation, underwriting and general claims management. 

Since moving to the Workers Compensation Scheme and have held various management positions with Cambridge Workers Compensation, WorkSafe Victoria, Transport Accident Commission and CGU Workers Compensation.

As the Delivery and Performance Manager, my team is responsible for powering the CGU Workers Compensation business to achieve its customer and financial objectives and perform at its best.
