We cover damage you cause to other people’s cars or property in an accident (up to $20million).
We cover your car if it’s stolen, vandalised, or damaged by someone trying to steal it.
We cover your car if it’s damaged by severe weather2.
We can arrange a hire car or alternative transport if your car’s stolen, or if it can’t be driven after an accident that’s not your fault3.
We pay for towing to a repairer or safe place if your car can’t be driven after an event we cover (like an accident).
If your new car’s written off in its first two years from the date it was first registered, we try to replace it with a similar new car4.
We pay for repairs you need to make after an event we cover so your car’s secure and safe to drive (up to $800)5.
We cover personal items6 in your car if they’re stolen or damaged in an accident (up to $1,000).
We cover baby capsules and baby seats if they’re stolen or damaged in an accident.
We cover your work tools if they're stolen or damaged in an accident7 (up to $1,500).
We cover you if you occasionally drive your car for a ridesharing service like Uber8.
Accessories and mods like spoilers, alloy wheels and tow bars are automatically included in the sum insured at no extra cost9.
We cover modifications to your car (like hoists, hand controls and wheelchair ramps). On agreed value policies, cover is limited to the agreed value. Call us on 1300 943 690 (8am–8pm AEDT, Mon–Fri) to include accessibility modifications in your quote.

Add an option to avoid paying an excess when you claim for glass damage only (like to your windscreen or windows).
Add an option to get a hire car or alternative transport if your car can’t be driven after any incident we cover3.

There are some things we don’t cover
We don’t cover assistance for breakdowns, dead batteries or flat tyres.
Injuries are covered by your Compulsory Third Party (CTP) Insurance.
We don’t cover costs for your hire car like petrol, tolls or a GPS.

Yes, you can make a claim online.
Logging in to your account gives you access to a range of services. By logging in you can update your contact details, change your payment method and view your policy documents.
Agreed value means you choose the amount to insure your car for (from a range we give you).
Market value means we’ll work out how much your car is worth at the time you make a claim. To do that, we use things like local market prices, your car’s age, its condition, and any modifications or accessories.
You don’t need to list them on your policy unless they’re the registered owner of the car. We cover anyone who drives your car if they’re following the conditions of their licence. However, for any driver not listed on your policy an undisclosed driver excess may apply.
If your car’s damaged and we are satisfied it can be repaired, you can have it fixed by a CGU Partner Repairer.
There are CGU Partner Repairers across Australia and we’ll help find one that's convenient for you.
If you've added the Any repairer option (available with Comprehensive), when your car’s damaged and we decide it can be repaired, you can choose any licensed repairer to fix it (including a Partner Repairer). If you choose someone other than a Partner Repairer, you might need to manage the repair process yourself.

1Cover is subject to standard underwriting guidelines and policy terms. Additional excesses may apply for undisclosed drivers, including for drivers under 25 or with less than 2 years’ driving experience.
2We may not cover you for some severe weather events during an embargo period (which is usually when we know a severe weather event is about to occur). We’ll tell you if there’s an embargo when you purchase your policy.
3If you have Comprehensive, we’ll pay the reasonable costs for a hire car after an accident if we agree it was the other driver’s fault and you have their name, address and rego number. If your vehicle has been stolen and we agree to provide cover we’ll pay up to $75 a day for your transport if you have Comprehensive and for up to 21 days or until your car’s found and repaired, or until your claim’s settled (whichever’s first).
4To get a new replacement car with Comprehensive, your car must weigh under 3.5 tonnes, and it must have been a new or demonstrator vehicle when you bought it, and less than 24 months old from the date it was first registered.
5Limit is up to $800 for Comprehensive.
6We don’t cover some personal items like cash, mobile phones or accessories fitted to your vehicle.
7Your tools are covered by Comprehensive if you can show us that you’ve been using your tools to earn income in your current business, and if they’re stolen, that they were locked in your car or a fitted toolbox.
8With Comprehensive, you’re covered for limited hours if you’ve told us you’re using your own personal car for ridesharing and pay any extra premium. Your average hours a week should be equal to or less than what is shown on your Certificate of Insurance (COI) for this use.
9Modifications, options and Accessories are not covered under Personal Items if those items are damaged in an incident we cover, or are stolen from your vehicle.

Market value means the value of your car just before an incident (like if your car’s stolen or damaged in a fire). It’s the maximum amount we’ll pay when you make a claim.
We work out the market value when you make a claim. We use things like local market prices, your car’s age, its condition, and any modifications or accessories.
This is different to agreed value, which is where you choose the amount to insure your car for (from a range we give you).
For ‘Third Party, Fire and Theft’ cover we will only insure you for the agreed value or market value of your car up to $10,000.
Yes, your car’s mods and accessories (like alloy wheels, spoilers and tow bars) are automatically covered.
If you have Third Party Fire & Theft Insurance and you make a claim, we include your accessories and modifications in the market value of your car (up to a maximum of $10,000).
You don’t need to list them on your policy unless they’re the registered owner of the car.
So, for example, if you own your car and your son or daughter is learning to drive, we’ll cover them even if they’re not listed. However, for any driver not listed on your policy an undisclosed driver excess may apply.
If your car’s damaged by fire or by someone trying to break into it, we’ll arrange for one of our CGU Partner Repairers to fix it.
We have CGU Partner Repairers across Australia, and we back the workmanship of their repairs with a lifetime guarantee.

It’s a basic level of cover (all our car insurance policies come with liability cover up to $20 million).

Yes, you can pay for your car insurance in fortnightly, monthly or quarterly instalments (as well as annually). Simply choose your preferred payment plan when you get a quote.
